History
The concept of health insurance started at the time of the Civil War (1861- 1865). In those early times, health insurances covered accidents that occur during traveling, particularly of steamboat and railway travel. With the success of the “accident insurance”, an integrated health insurance came about, covering illnesses as well. In 1847, the first insurance against sickness was offered by Massachusetts Health Insurance of Boston.
